Bill Boyd Wreck (Technical)
The Bill Boyd is one of Fort Lauderdale's most legendary deep wreck dives — a hauntingly beautiful ghost ship frozen in time on the ocean floor. Originally built in Hamburg, Germany in 1964 as the cargo freighter Heino, she was intentionally sunk on July 18, 1986 as an artificial reef and now rests upright at around 265 feet, with her bow facing south and her stern section rising slightly shallower to the north. Exploring her holds reveals fascinating surprises — an old pickup truck sits in the forward cargo hold, its hood missing and engine exposed, alongside several shipping containers in both the forward and aft sections. The wreck remains largely intact and is draped in coral, surrounded by thriving schools of fish that have made her their permanent home. Due to her extreme depth, the Bill Boyd is reserved exclusively for certified technical divers. Bottom time is limited, but those who make the descent are rewarded with an experience unlike any other in South Florida waters.
